Our 2020 Christmas Appeal

…my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.

Luke 1:47-48 ESVUK

What a challenging, tiring and unsettling year this has been for everyone. Yet, this advent season gives us the opportunity to lift our eyes above our circumstances and reflect on how God looked on the world with favour when He sent His Son 2,000 years ago.

My spirit rejoices

This Christmas, we will be celebrating the birth of Jesus with many Arab people who are joining in for the first time. New believers will echo Mary’s words by rejoicing in God our Saviour who has broken into their lives at their point of desperation. This includes Syrian refugees, Faria* and Miya*, who came to faith while fleeing to Turkey.

Faria and Miya made their way to a refugee camp, and they waited for someone to tell them about Isa. Then when Magda*, a cross-cultural worker visited them, Faria told her, ‘You are the person who’s going to tell me about Isa. Please tell me more about him.’ Isa happens to be the name of Jesus in Arabic. So Magda gladly shared the gospel with Faria and Miya, and they both became believers in Christ.

He has looked with favour

Despite the pandemic, God has been blessing our efforts as a mobilisation office as we continue to encourage, mentor and sustain people like Magda in their outreach. We serve around 90 cross-cultural workers passionate about introducing Arabic-speaking Muslims to God our Saviour. We are identifying and training many potential recruits to join the mission efforts.

…we continue to see people engaging with us and exploring the call to go. At the end of October, we had 13 people join us via Zoom for our annual Compass weekend, from engineers, to medical workers, to students. It was great to hear how God is working in their lives, and to share with them more of what reaching the Arab world for Christ practically looks like. Whilst nothing can be set in stone, plans are still moving forward. For example, amongst others, we have two ladies hoping to travel out to the Mediterranean in 2021 to get involved with refugee outreach. Charlotte, mission mobiliser
