‘It doesn’t matter – the team still lost the game’
I gave this fairly blunt reply to a teammate who tried to cheer me up. It was a cold Tuesday evening before the lockdown and we had just narrowly lost an eight-a-side football match. A young player was trying to console me that despite our team losing, at least I had a good game. This exchange taught them two vital lessons:
1) Football is fundamentally a team game.
2) I am very competitive and quite grumpy in defeat.
The Apostle Paul teaches us that the health and impact of the Body of Christ relies on each member playing their part. One person playing their role to the best of their ability isn’t enough.
