I am involved in writing Between the Lines, Letters of Radical Faith – an exciting new production which is a joint project between Saltmine Theatre Company and AWM Pioneers.
It is a huge privilege to be developing a play based on the lives of three people who have stepped out in faith into cross-cultural mission.
From the pioneering Lilias Trotter in the late 1800s to modern-day examples, there is a consistent compelling strand that connects each character. All three were burdened to share Christ with people of the Arab world.
As I have researched the lives and situations of each character, I have been inspired by their passion for the unreached and stirred by the challenges they overcame by God’s grace.
In one interview, this worker shared what compelled him to mission:
I see people in bondage…just to see what they have to go through every day just breaks my heart. At the same time, it also pushes me on to be bolder in witness so they can be free, so they can hear the word, so they can choose Christ and live. I want them to have peace and love even though their life situation is difficult.
I left my conversation with this worker overwhelmed by his love for the people he served. It inspired me to reach out to those yet to hear the love of Christ.
I hope the play will impact each audience as much as it has influenced me and the production team in preparing it.
